How to organise your commercial refrigerator

How to organise your commercial refrigerator

When filling your display fridge, do you pay close attention to where exactly you place your products? If not, you might want to consider this more in the future!

Why? Because ensuring your refrigerated display case is well organised is often heralded as the key to longer lasting, more attractive and higher performing produce. And will ultimately result in more sales!

We regularly see companies that spend a little extra time on the arrangement of their products, rewarded with almost instant improvements in sales. So, as refrigeration product experts here at J&M Refrigeration, we thought we would give you the lowdown on how you might want to present your refrigerator in the future.

NEVER over fill

How much should you store in your commercial refrigerator? A bare looking refrigerator can be both a blessing and a curse. It can show that your products are popular but also highlights the fact you’re failing to capitalise on a restock for even more sales.

However, an overly busy refrigerator is no good either.  It shows your products perhaps aren’t as appealing to customers as you’d like and can lead to produce deteriorating in condition as they sit there for too long.

A messy refrigerator layout often results in forgotten products that can be past their sell by date, becoming a danger to customers as they are no longer fit for consumption.

Cluttering can also result in the system working harder than it should, which could result in damaging faults that require commercial refrigeration repair.

Two thirds full is normally the ideal ratio to stick to when filling your refrigerator.

Ensure correct labelling

As a customer, have you ever wanted to see the price of an item but couldn’t find the corresponding label anywhere? Frustrating, right? Don’t let your shop suffer from this oversight – ensure that your labels and produce are matched up correctly!

Customers are often guilty of placing products back in a commercial refrigerator in an unorganised manner, which can leave future consumers confused. This is especially the case in promotions where only certain products may be eligible, and customers want to know if this is the case quickly. To keep an organised layout in your refrigerator, you should regularly check the position of your products in correlation to your labels, to ensure customers aren’t misled when looking for what they need.

Arrange in “best by” order

One of the hardest, yet most important aspects of maintaining a display fridge is ensuring all products are kept in date.

To achieve this, you should regularly check items to make sure they’re fit for sale. One trick that will help remove products that need selling more urgently is to place those with the nearest sell by dates at the front. This way, they can be sold quickly before they have to be thrown out.

You can then put “fresher” products at the back and continue the cycle to ensure a constant flow of fresh, ready to sell items.
